JANUARY 29th

Hey ladies (and Pete)!

I'll be hosting January's discussion. I have chosen the book "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. It's not too long a book, and it's an inspiring read. I rate it "G". Ü

I live in Sandy, and the address is 10852 Marsha Kaye Circle. Take I-15 to the 123rd South exit. You'll turn right off the exit and make an immediate left (Outlet Drive, which turns into State Street. You'll see the shiny, new In n Out!) follow State Street to 11000 South and turn right. Take your first left, 85 East (turns into Marsha Kaye Circle). Drive straight to nearly the end of the cul de sac. We're on the left.

I'd love to do a potluck, if that's okay. I'll have some tasty stuff here, but if everyone else could bring something, we can have a good, old-fashioned... eating... time. Yay!

Please RSVP here or on facebook! I'm excited!

New Moon update!

If you didn't yet notice the New Moon countdown widget on the screen to your right, then you are not as excited as I am about seeing it NEXT WEEK!!!
Here are a couple of items that need to be addressed quickly:
1-Maren hasn't received payment from a few people for movie tickets. We need to know if you still plan on attending the movie, as we've had a LOT of people ask recently if we have any extra tickets. We can sell them your ticket if you don't plan on using it. That said, we want you to come, so just call Maren and let her know what your plan is and if you'll be purchasing your reserved ticket. PLEASE LET HER KNOW NO LATER THAN MONDAY MORNING AT 10 AM. If she doesn't hear from you by then, she will assume you no longer want your tickets and sell them to someone else. :(
2-Ok, next thing is CARPOOLING! :)
Maren and I will both be driving up to Thanksgiving Point. I have room for 3 more in my car, and Maren has room for 4 others in hers. We will both be leaving at 6pm. We can pick people up a little earlier than that if needed. Please let us know if you want to ride up with one of us!
Ya!! We will see you all next Friday!!!

October Wrap Up

Thanks to all of you who made it to our meeting on Friday...it was a blast! We missed those of you who couldn't make it. Here is the info from our meeting....

For 2010 we will again be meeting on the last Friday of the month with the exception of October, November, and December due to the holidays falling at the end of the month those months. We made up a schedule for all of 2010 and assigned months for those member present as well as those who weren't present but had asked us to do so. There are a few members who were not assigned a month- if you would like to participate in hosting a month please talk to Sara or Maren. If the month you were assigned doesn't work for you please try to switch with someone.

(I'm having issue with an HTML error so sorry for the jumbled schedule!)

Month
Date Host
January- Jan. 29- Bethany Simmons
February- Feb. 26- Kristy Davidson
March- Mar. 26 - Maren Paulsen
April- Apr. 30 - Deanna Whaley
May- May 28 -Macy Mauerman
June- June 25- Megan Adamson
July- July 30 - Debbie Young
August- Aug. 27 -Mary Knight
September - Sept. 25 -Sara Cook
October- Oct. 22 - Kami Adamson
November- TBD- No Host (Eclipse Movie!)
December- TBD- TBD

The hostess for each month will pick the book we read using the following guidelines:
1- Try to keep the book under 600 pages (exceptions can be made- talk to Sara or Maren or anyone that went to the October meeting for details)
2- Please give the book a rating using the standard motion picture rating system. (i.e. G, PG , PG-13...) also include why you rating the book as such. For example: PG for mild violence and brief sexual content. The idea is just to give members an idea of what to expect.

We want to have the books picked for 2010 by the Dec 2009 meeting so please bring your selection with you that night or email it to Sara or Maren.

When you host please feel free to do the food any way you want. You can do dessert, finger foods, a meal.....whatever. Just give everyone a heads up so we know what the plan is. We want there to be lots a flexibility so do whatever you feel like!

FYI- We will be posting the info about December's meeting very soon but the tentative plan is to have it early in the month...STAY TUNED!

Lastly, there are a few of you who haven't paid for your New Moon ticket-please email me at marenpaulsen@comcast.net and let me know what your plan is- you can drop it off at my house or pay me that night. Just let me know you still want your ticket! Thanks so much!

What's coming up for TFNBC?

Thanks to everyone who was able to come and enjoy our last discussion! This last book was really good, but challenging to read, for a few reasons. Maybe it was just hard for me because it wasn't a middle reader? :) Thanks to Pete for broadening our reading horizons and giving many of us nightmares! LOL! :)

At our Sept. dinner we discussed some changes that would take place over the next few months.

PLEASE PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE NEW MOON SECTION AS IT REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ACTION!

Here is what's happening:

October

Since we are getting closer to the holidays, and since Halloween falls on the last Friday of October, we decided it would be easiest for there to be no new read for the month of Oct. Instead, we have voted on going to dinner (dutch) at the Olive Garden in American Fork, just off the Main St. Exit, near Target, on Friday, October 23, at 6:30 pm. MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW! Please RSVP to Sara by October 20. You may post your RSVP on here as well.

This dinner will also serve as a meeting, of sorts. We will be discussing the new year, how books will be chosen, signing up for hosting months, and other activities!

We will also be introducing a rating system for the books we're reading. This will be fun!

Also, we will vote in members and an administrative team to help pull everything together for the next year!

If there is anyone who you think would like to join us, and become a member, please bring them to this dinner! This is the time to join!! Likewise, if any of you don't think that you have the time or desire to continue for the next year, please let us know that as well.

If you live out of state, or cannot make the dinner for whatever reason, but want to be voted in as a member and have your name on a hosting list, please let us know via email or phone! We don't want you to miss out on the fun we have planned so far!

NEW MOON time!!!!

Since Thanksgiving is a major holiday and also falls at the end of the month, we won't be reading a book for November either! Instead, we are off to see NEW MOON! Yea!!! :) We are suggesting that we read New Moon in anticipation of the movie but it is just a suggestion.

We need a head count of all those who would like to go by midnight on Monday, September 28th. We will be going on Opening night, Nov. 20, to either the 7pm or 10pm show. The show time will be decided after determining how many seats we need, tickets are going fast so we will have to take what we can get that will accommodate our group size. We will let you know, after they're purchased, which show time we'll be watching!

Please email Maren at marenpaulsen@comcast.net by the deadline and let her know whether or not you will be going to New Moon as well as how many tickets you need!

Maren has been extremely kind in offering to purchase our tickets with her card so we can get them ASAP. You will be responsible to get Maren you money on or before our Oct. dinner at Olive Garden! If you commit to going to the movie but are unable to come for some reason, you will still be responsible to pay Maren for your ticket. (this pretty much goes without saying, right)!

Tickets cost $9/person. You will have a reserved seat at the Thanksgiving Point Megaplex Theatre. We hope to have a good, fun crowd for this!!

December

Once again, there will be no read for December, due to the busyness of the Holidays! We will be having a book club Christmas party!!

Mary Knight has graciously offered her home for these festivities! More details on this activity will be given at our October dinner!
